[Midlake To Tour Early 2007]
All right, can someone tell me what the hell is in Denton? The name sounds rural, and it probably is. But nonetheless, I'm going to find myself there one day looking around wondering what kind of blip on the map can give us a group like Midlake. Despite avid response to the The Trials of Van Occupanther album, I didn't really heed to the group that provided it. Then one night in July, I stood in a claustrophobic room watching them set up for their share of the night. Honestly, I was only there for Starlight Mints, but the second they started, I was all about Midlake. Now, with most live shows, people speak of the energy that got them moving. Midlake, however, provided a wave that kept us all still. They had us on a leash, and we liked it. On stage, the band is just clockwork. Every single piece worked with the other so well that the fivesome coalesced the complexities of each song into one entity. The whole experience was dreamlike; this force coming out of the speakers was just sending us places. All in all, it was one good night indeed, and the group wants to share this experience with people again early next year. Twenty-four dates in all, and you really ought to make yourself go to one...

Among other things, Denton has UNT, which apparently has a good music school (I moved out of Texas before college, but a bunch of my band friends were aiming to go there). (They also have TWU, where my mom did the first year of her BA, but that would be more appropriate if we were discussing nurses, not bands.)

mark - Hehe, glad you like the current scheme, but according to the polls, people seem keen on change...

kate - A university town! That explains it...

That explains Denton pretty well.
