[Chris Garneau]
Had Regina Spektor adopted a Y chromosome rather than doublin' up on her Xs, Chris Garneau would have ultimately been concieved. Luckily, he was still given to us, and aren't we thankful? Like Spektor, Garneau utilizes 88 keys to craft his music, and pairing this with little more than his voice and the occasional strings of a cello, Chris Garneau generates beautiful, fragil melodies. As the keys play on, Garneau, in a lispy whisper, pronounce's each word's secrets, and in a genre where mistakes and misfits are easily identified due to the stripped down melodies, you notice...nothing is wrong. Every note is perfectly placed; every vocal hiccup is purposeful. The message is clear, Garneau just knows what he's doing. His debut album Music for Tourists will be released January 23 under Absolutely Kosher Records, and a show to celebrate the release will take place on February 2 at New York's Tonic.
