[PTGEAIYGTSBWLAEIYWG Mix - Part 2]
The People To Get Excited About If You're Going To SXSW But Would Like Anyway Even If You Weren't Going Mix
Part 2 of 2

You're probably wondering what the hell all those letters mean. Kicking off South By Southwest coverage this year is a massive mix for a massive fest. There's been quite a bit of material I could have covered before the fest officially goes down, and the operative phrase there is "could have." Undoubtedly, it's a gargantuan amount, and the time I've had lately has been miniscule...and I've been lazy (I haven't even made my schedule yet!). When situations like this arise, a blogger's best friend, mix, comes into play, and so I present this. Returning from last year is the People To Get Excited About If You're Going To SXSW But Would Like Anyway Even If You Weren't Going Mix - the product of me quickly skimming through that list of artists and jotting down names that had me getting all giddy. SXSW Music officially began when the clock struck midnight earlier this morning! For those of you going, I tip my hat and remind you to prepare for a crazy, crazy, crazy time...

[3.14 : A Pi Day Mix]
3.14
Pi Day Mix

Apparently the United States is the only one that formats its dates as Month.Day.Year, so for most of you out there, this is going to be pretty irrelevant. Considering the international date line, this was always going to be pretty irrelevant to all of you out there in the future. Regardless! Today is 3.14, and for the nerds in the United States, that number only means one thing - Pi. Happy Pi Day, nerds!

3.14 Pi Day Mix (artist name leads to site and all songs are right click - save as):
Anathallo - By Number
Bishop Allen - The Magpie
Foals - Mathletics
Lawrence Arabia - Apple Pie Bed
Los Campesinos! - Don't Tell Me To Do The Math
Midlake - Kingfish Pies
Noah And The Whale - Death By Numbers
The Whitest Boy Alive - Figures

Otherwheres - It's South By week here in Austin, expect my People To Get Excited About... mix soon, and of course one helluva recap once everything's all wrapped up! In the meantime, I'm gonna try to take everything in and relay as much as I can to you by fest's end!

Otherwheres - Speaking of relaying info, be sure to follow up with us on Twitter during these South By days...

Cymbals Eat Guitars

Cymbals Eat Guitars may be my new favorite band.  Whereas Brad's musical inclinations were birthed from Spoon, mine sprouted from the likes of Built To Spill, Sunday's Best, and Hey Mercedes.  Cymbals Eat Guitars brings me back to my musical roots.

Emo is not the trashy pop/punk that you hear on the radio today.  Emo started in the late eighties with bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Jets to Brazil.  It transformed the independent rock world and quickly turned into a lifestyle.  Picked guitar melodies and average-white-guy vocals created a sound that was ear candy to those so inclined.

With vocals half-screamed and half-muttered, Cymbals Eat Guitars is bringing the movement back.  Their sound is genuine, solid, and reminiscent of the great, broken-up bands of the yesteryears.  Catch them at the Urban Outfitters Day Party at SXSW with me.
