The Thermals
I love love love The Thermals. From Portland Oregon, this trio consists of Hutch Harris on vocals and guitar, Kathy Foster on bass, and Lorin Coleman on drums.

Here's a picture of Kathy taken by Baxter:
I like it a lot. I like Baxter a lot.

Lorin's a newbie (The Thermals' original drummer, Jordan Hudson recently left the band), and is actually not on their latest record, The Body, The Blood, and the Machine, at all. Kathy had to take over the rhythm section for pretty much the whole album while Harris took over some of the bass parts. But alas, Lorin is now in, and the group will be touring with their new drummer and new album this year (tour dates are posted below).
The Thermals are really fun to both watch and listen to. Their video for "Pillar of Salt" is regularly viewed on my iPod as a pick-me-up when I'm feeling down. Upbeat, punkish, and basement-esque, The Thermals definitely have a message they're delivering to the world: we're being run by Christian fascists and we need to get the hell out of here. In "Power Doesn't Run On Nothing," Harris belts, "They'll give us what we're asking for/'Cause God is with us, and our god's the richest/Our power doesn't run on nothing/It runs on blood/And blood's easy to obtain when you have no shame." Furthermore, the cover art of The Body depicts Jesus with outstretched arms, black censor strip over his eyes, destruction all around. How opinionated! The Thermals have something to say, have no problem saying it, and do it with such musical spunk and vivacity that you can't help but love them.
