Ingrid Michaelson
I'm beyond repair, let me be. Just give me back my pieces.

The first Ingrid Michaelson song I heard was not sung by Ingrid Michaelson. Instead it was sung by a fellow actor in rehearsal for a set of one acts I was involved in. I think you may know what song I'm talking about. It goes a little something like, "'Cause I-I-I-I lo-o-o-ove the way you say good morning..." Even from my castmate's less-than-talented singing voice, I fell in love with the melody. That's how undeniably catchy Ingrid (can I call her Ingrid like I know her?) is. Of course, that song was her heavily publicized "The Way I Am," from her first album Girls and Boys, featured in the likes of Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and an Old Navy commercial.

Her sophomore album, Be OK, was released on October 14 and coincides with a national headlining tour beginning October 29. A portion of her record sales will go to Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C), "a groundbreaking initiative aimed at raising funds to accelerate cancer research and end cancer's reign as a leading cause of death." What a philanthropist.

For those who don't yet know who Ingrid Michaelson is or what she sounds like (those select few), think coffee-shop singer/songwriter and you'll pretty much get her gist. Often accompanied by only an acoustic guitar or piano, Ingrid's music is light, sweet, and simple. Ingrid's voice, however, is far from saccharine. Reminiscent of the vocal masters of the yesteryears (think '50s movies), she has a command over her vocals similar to that of St. Vincent. Now how could anyone deny a sweet, socially, medically conscious, televised, vocal master?
